Coffee and capsule recycling
Recycling Caffitaly System Capsules Q. Can I recycle the Caffitaly system capsule?
A. Yes. Caffitaly system capsules are manufactured from Polypropylene (PP/EVOH/PP) which can be recycled into new products or alternatively can be incinerated to produce energy.

Q. How do I recycle the capsule? A. The different materials need to be separated for recycling – plastic, foil & coffee. Rinse out the capsule before recycling.

  • The Caffitaly system capsule is made of plastic type 1 and plastic type 2, both of which can be easily recycled. Type 1 and 2 containers include detergent containers, milk, soft drink, juice, cooking oil and water bottles.
  • The foil is made of aluminum and can be recycled along with aluminum cans.
  • The coffee can be used to produce a composite. ( See below )
  • Q. Where can I recycle the capsule? A. Contact your local authority to determine where to take it.

    Q. Can the coffee grounds be used for anything? A. Coffee is an organic substance & can be used in some of the following ways:

  • Sprinkle used grounds around plants for a slow-release nitrogen.
  • Add to compost piles to increase nitrogen balance.
  • Mix with water for a gentle, fast-acting liquid fertilizer.
  • Mix into soil for houseplants or new vegetable beds.
  • Encircle the base of the plant with a coffee and eggshell barrier to repel pests.

(It is easy to collect coffee grounds from your office. Just put a container next to the capsule machine. Empty once a week or as needed. Once people see what you're doing, don't be surprised if others want the grounds too!)
